Wendy Chardonnay 2021

This is arguably the best Chardonnay ever produced by Eldridge Estate, Red Hill, Mornington Peninsula.  It is showing corn husk and jasmine flower on the nose with citrus, honeydew, toasted hazelnuts, and fresh straw.  Palate is fresh and crisp with ripe peach flesh.  Great length and carries quartz like acidity that melts away like lemon sorbet.

Production Notes and Chemistry

The best Chardonnay fruit grown at Eldridge, Red Hill, Mornington Peninsula, was pressed and then fermented with indigenous yeasts in March 2021.  This excellent Chardonnay went through full malolactic fermentation and then rested in barrels at Eldridge Estate, Mornington Peninsula until being bottled in late 2021.

Food Pairing

This great Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay would pair perfectly with seared scallops and lime beurre blanc, or BBQ Chinese cabbage with miso dressing and roasted peanuts.

Reviews

Halliday rated this top Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay a 96.  Halliday said “While there are layers of flavour, it’s a finer style and yes it does go through malo but this is the most restrained Wendy to date. In the mix, stone fruit meets Meyer lemon, there’s ginger with a sprinkle of oak spice and remains lithe and juicy as bright acidity keeps it on a linear thread.”
